First Responder Resiliency Building (FRRB) Through Coaching
The FRRB Blog area is for questions, comments, ideas, experiments, discussions specifically about and within the first responder community. For example: How might coaching help me with better thinking, planning, and goal setting for my next promotional level? Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, how much does it cost? What’s the value of coaching verses peer support or EAP? All these things, and anything on your minds are on the table for discussion.
What is Personal Life Coaching and What Should you Expect and Experience?
Greetings, and I invite each of you to explore what you believe to be relevant to life coaching and expectations.
Bill’s view of personal life coaching:
In a nutshell, a Certified Life Coach is someone who is highly trained to help clients explore within themselves topics of interest or growth.
Each coaching session is an independent event, with time frames determined by the person being coached (client) and coach as a team. The client will define the topic for any session and the coach is trained to ensure ethical principles are understood and followed and confidentiality is assured.
Coaching is not therapy, consulting, instructing, or any other discipline where it is dependent on answers emanating from the coach. In coaching, it is all about the person being coached. Coaching assumes the person is able to be in the present to work towards their identified and stated goals.
Coaches routinely will recommend a referral if therapy is indicated, but will always be at the discretion of the person being coached.
A professional life coach is about being an expert in listening, intuition, curiosity, exploring, questioning, challenging, and validating to the extent where a 1% growth is celebrated. Growth happens toward the edge of our comfort zones.
Why coaching works is more about how a person can vet desires, topics, aspirations, conflicts, fears, roles, or any issues within themselves, with the help of another to grow in areas of simple or complexity towards their best-self.
I look forward to working with you as your coach.
